Executive Summary By Michael M Tan

One of the most recent and best innovations that has been introduced by Macintosh/Apple Inc. is the Macbook Air. It’s known to be the thinnest and most portable laptop computer among all the Macintosh computers that has been developed and produced so far.
When closed, the Macbook Air is only 0.16 inches thin. Just like another Apple product, the iPhone, the Macbook Air comes with features such as panning around the screen, rotating the image, moving different windows, and flicking to zoom. The Macbook Air’s memory boasts of the same as in the iPod classic which is a 1.8″ 80-GB drive.
While the thin and sleek design of Macbook Air provides an ultimate portability, it also causes some issues and limitations. Despite being an upgrade of the Macbook, the Macbook Air still lacks some features that the Macbook was initially designed with. Different from other computer models from Macintosh, the Air has only a single USB port.

Executive Summary By Al O.

If you have been shopping for a new laptop computer you might have noticed all of the thinner laptops. Thin laptops and netbooks are becoming the new “it” thing in the computer world. Netbooks if you don’t know are basically mini-laptops aimed at people who only need a notebook computer for Internet and e-mail. Netbooks are very lightweight and small devices.
Just look around phones are getting thinner, computer monitors are getting thinner and televisions are getting thinner too. If you have a thinner computer monitor you can put a desktop anywhere, if you have a thin phone you can put the phone virtually anywhere and if you have a thin television you can mount it instead of getting a big entertainment center.

All of the laptop manufacturers are making new smaller laptops every day. The Mac book laptop series does this but they really aren’t considered mini-laptops they are just thin regular sized laptops. The main problem that mini-laptops have is that the laptops don’t have space for the cooling fans that are needed too efficiently run a core 2 duo laptop.

Differences Between Linux And Windows

Executive Summary By Matt Gebhardt

Let us first start out with a general overview of the Linux operating system. Linux at its most basic form is a computer kernel. Some Linux distro’s can only run one processor, while others can run many at once.

As a result of Linux being open source software, there is no one version of Linux; instead there are many different versions or distributions of Linux, that are suited for a variety of different users and task. The KDE GUI (Graphical user interface). Windows users might note that KDE has a similar look to Windows. Fluxbox is another example of a Linux GUI.

All versions of Windows, weather Windows XP Home, Business, or Vista, all updates, security patches, and service patches for Windows comes from Microsoft. Windows and Linux also differ on TECH support issues. Although IBM backs their Linux products, for the most part if you use Linux you are on your own. Also Linux offers a variety of Graphical environments to further suit your needs. The cost effectiveness of Linux is another way it separates itself from Windows. Installation of Windows is generally easier, than installing Linux.

With Linux installation varies greatly from Distro to Distro. You can run Linux off of the CD so you do not have to damage your Windows partition. Other advantages include the ability to rescue a broken Linux system. Windows includes a much wider abundance of commercially backed applications than does Linux. Also with Linux it can be difficult to install software even if it is made for Linux. The type of hard ware that Linux and windows runs on also causes them to differ.

Linux will run on many different hardware platforms, from Intel and AMD chips, to computers running IBM power Pc processors. Linux will run on the slowest 386 machines to the biggest mainframes on the planet, newer versions of Windows will not run on the same amount of hardware as Linux. Linux can even be configured to run on apples, Ipod’s, or smart phones.

Unlike Widows Linux is often lacking in professional Tech support, and Linux users are often left on their own to solve Technical issues. Linux users can either pay for Tech support or rely on the many Linux Forums and groups available on the Internet. Linux will run on a greater variety of hard ware than does Windows, from mainframe super computers running multiple IBM Power PC Chips, to a small laptop running an AMD processor. Other than a few minor nuisances, linux out performs Windows in most categories.

Executive Summary By Alex Davies

There are a couple of ways to install Ubuntu:
Live CD from Canonical (or the manufacturer of your chosen distro. This option uses a Live CD made by Canonical, the makers of Ubuntu. Live CD created by you. Option 1 is by the easiest of them all. You just send off for a disk from Canonical (for Ubuntu), shove it in your CD drive on your computer/laptop, boot up and some options will come up. Option 2 is marginally harder than the above.
What you will need is a blank CD, a CD creator drive, a CD burner program and of course the distro ISO. Start you CD burner program, such as Nero and click ‘create CD-ROM ISO’ or something along these lines. Then browse through to where you you saved the .iso file, for example Computer>Documents>Downloads, select it and click create. It also gives you the option to test before you install it.
