Laptop Repair and Upgrade
Executive Summary By Michael LaRocco

Laptop repair isnt always easy, but sometimes it can be. If the laptop isnt under warranty and you dont feel comfortable replacing some of these parts yourself, youll have to find a professional to do it.
Easy to replace parts:
Wireless adapter- if your wireless stops working for some reason, you can just go out and get a USB wireless adapter or a PCMCIA wireless adapter to put in the card slot.
RAM/Memory- Memory is pretty easy to install and fairly inexpensive. Most places that sell laptops can install it for you, or if you feel comfortable installing it yourself you can put it in. Hard Drive: A hard drive can be a little more tricky to upgrade.
If your hard drive gets corrupted, youll probably lose most of your data unless a professional can recover it. The #1 reason for hard drive corruption is abuse, so be careful with your laptop if you wanna keep your hard drive safe. A hard drive upgrade is similar to a RAM upgrade.
Not so easy to replace parts:
You’d be better off just buying a new laptop. Motherboard: Upgrading or replacing the motherboard can be a hassle as well, and costly. Graphics card: Since laptops dont have as much room as a desktop computer, the graphics card is usually integrated onto the motherboard.
Computer Memory Upgrades

Executive Summary By Matthew Richard Kerridge
Upgrading the memory on your desktop or laptop computer is fairly simple and straightforward. Many users chose to give their RAM a boost after purchasing a machine for a variety of reasons. RAM upgrades are particularly attractive on Macs.
Look it up on Amazon.com, and you’ll be surprised at how little memory you get for a $1,000 laptop. Keep in mind that new RAM cards are best installed in pairs. So if you’re only upgrading your memory by 1 GB, use two 512 MB cards, one in either slot on the motherboard.
Once we’ve chosen the proper RAM cards, the installation for your memory upgrade is so simple, you’ll probably slap yourself on the forehead once you get finished reading this. Get a screw driver, undo the back panel on your laptop or side panel on your desktop PC.
Find the memory slots on your computer’s motherboard. Slide the new RAM cards into the slots. While extra RAM will bump up your computers speed and responsiveness, it won’t be an exactly linear increase. A lot depends on the processor, clock speed, architecture, memory management, and a host of other issues. But for the money, there’s no better way to improve your PC’s performance, short of purchasing a new machine.
